Chamois cream explained...

Chamois cream explained...

You've heard about chamois cream but never tried it or maybe you already use it. This short article may be insightful either way.

Chamois cream is best applied onto the chamois insert pad of your cycling shorts to reduce friction and prevent saddle sores. Some sources suggest applying directly to the skin but it is more difficult to apply correctly onto the target areas. We suggest that application method to the bibshorts insert is the most effective and perfectly targets the areas providing the best benefit; that is the perineum and surrounding areas that have the most contact with the saddle. The perineum is the diamond-shaped region at the bottom of the pelvis, located between the thighs and situated below the pelvic floor muscles

ASSOS chamois cream is renowned as being one of the best formulas, reducing friction and with antibacterial properties. There are specific mens and womens formulations. These come in a 200ml container that can provide quite a number of applications... a little goes a long way.

Effective on all outdoor rides, short or long and especially useful for indoor rides as you are sweating more and usually remain seated for much longer periods of time, a combination that can lead to discomfort.

How to apply ASSOS Chamois Cream: (see photo below)
• Prepare the skin or shorts: Make sure your skin is clean and dry, turn your clean cycling shorts inside out to reveal the chamois insert.
• Use the right amount: Scoop out a quarter sized amount (about 5 to 10 ml).
• Target high-friction zones: Apply the cream to areas that contact/rub against the saddle, perineum area, and nearby inner thigh area.
• Rub it in: Massage the cream thoroughly until it absorbs or spreads into a thin, even layer.
• Gear up and ride: Put on your bib shorts immediately after application.

ASSOS Chamois Creme is effective and rinses easily out of technical apparel. Do NOT use something like Vaseline as it is quite difficult to wash out, not antibacterial, can damage the bibshorts insert and other material over time.

Suggest to wash cycling bib-shorts after each ride... one ride then wash and hang to dry. Do NOT put bib-shorts in the dryer as this will damage the fabrics and shorten the life-span of the equipment.

Have a good ride!
